Restart the Print Spooler through Command Prompt and Windows Services

To restart the Print Spooler through Windows Services:

Services window

  1. Press Win + R
  2. Type:
    services.msc
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Find Print Spooler in the list.
  5. Right-click Print Spooler.
  6. Select Restart.

If Restart is not available:

  1. Right-click Print SpoolerStop
  2. Wait a few seconds.
  3. Right-click Print SpoolerStart

If you are doing it through Computer Management

  1. Right-click This PCManage
  2. Go to Services and Applications
  3. Click Services
  4. Find Print Spooler
  5. Right-click → Restart


 

Tip: If the Print Spooler keeps stopping or documents remain stuck in the queue, you can also stop the spooler → clear the print queue → start the spooler.

To Restart Windows Print Spooler using command prompts:

Open Command Prompt (Run as Administrator):

1.      To Stop Print Spooler

net stop spooler

2.      Start Print Spooler

net start spooler

3.      Restart Print Spooler

net stop spooler

net start spooler

PowerShell

Restart Service - Name Spooler

If the spooler is stuck and you want to clear all stuck print jobs:

net stop spooler

del /Q /F %systemroot%\System32\spool\PRINTERS\*.*

net start spooler

⚠️ The last command deletes all pending print jobs from that Windows computer.
